Do your students need help sharpening their summarizing skills? Summarizing is an important skill, and there are many different strategies. The SWBST (Somebody, Wanted, But, So) strategy is easy to implement. It has been around forever, and there are multiple variations. The variations can be used across different grade levels or for differentiation within one classroom.

This resource includes three different acronyms for easy differentiation:

  • SWBST – Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then
  • SWBBST – Somebody, Wanted, Because, But, So, Then
  • SSWBBST – Somebody, Somewhere, Wanted, Because, But, So, Then
